AARA HONEY BEE FARM

Honeybee rearing is one of the major component of Integrated Farming System, Farm Pro Agro established 150 honeybee colonies in the AARA Honey Bee Farm.

Mrs.E.Kavitha, Founder, Farm Pro Agro encourage the farmers and rural women to involve in honeybee rearing activities for enhancing the crop yield through cross pollination of honeybees and getting additional income from honey for farmers, rural women and also conserving natural ecosystem.

Objectives of the AARA Honey Bee Farm

  • To support  agricultural activities through  cross  pollination  and  increase in crop production  
  • To create  awareness  through capacity  building  program on Scientific Honeybee Rearing techniques
  • To provide supplementary income through value addition in honey and honey by-products
  • To empower the rural women & tribal through honeybee rearing activities

The Department of Agriculture and Horticulture from different districts i.e. Erode, Coimbatore, Thirupur, Krishnagiri, Salam, Namakkal, Ariyalur and Trichy in Tamilnadu organizes farmers training and exposure program under ATMA Scheme to Farm Pro Agro on regular basis.  During the visit, the farmers and farm women were getting the knowledge and hands-on training on Honeybee rearing techniques particularly, need and importance of honeybee rearing, different of types of bees and its role, safe handling of bees and bee boxes, feeding method and role of honeybees in agriculture production etc.   

As part of the programme, the farmers were brought to the AARA Honeybee rearing unit and conducted method demonstration among the farmers.

ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Mrs.Kavitha, Founder, Lifetime Member in National Bee Board, New Delhi 
  • 150 Bee Colonies established in farm and monitoring regularly 
  • 2 Farmers Group formed in Sathy & Anthiyur block under National Horticulture Bee Mission (NHBM) 
  • 3 Farmers Interest Group formed in Tribal areas in Erode district
  • Bee boxes supplied to Bargur, Kadambur and Talavadi hilly area farmers    
  • Yearly on an average 1200 farmers, agriculture students are visited to our farm
